The planned redevelopment of the Holywell Way and Explorer Avenue area in Stanwell is not only about upgrading the housing, but also about improving the community facilities. The Stanwell New Start project has created the opportunity for a number of organisations from the public and voluntary sectors to work together on several projects. |
| A new purpose-built Health Centre |
Spelthorne Borough Council is working with the Primary Care Trust to provide a new purpose-built health centre, which will meet the needs of local people. It will be built on the site of the current Stanwell Day Centre and includes facilities such as a library and a community café. |
Many residents have asked why we need a new health centre. The current centre is not large enough to meet the needs of local residents. The Primary Care Trust needs to provide GP services, primary care, local clinics and testing facilities, and the only way is by having a purpose-built new health centre. |
| Ashley House has been appointed to design, build and manage the new health centre. Planning permission has been granted and building will commence in April/May 2010. |
| Children's Centre |
The proposed Stanwell children’s centre is part of the Government’s ‘Sure Start’ programme which aims to help children, parents and communities by providing combined education, care, family support and health services. Part of the service will be centred at Ashford Hospital. The centre opened in May 2008 and offers courses, support and advice for families. A new purpose built building is under construction in the grounds of the youth centre in Hadrian Way. It is anticipated it will be ready to use by summer 2010 and will mean the services offered by the centre will be available all year round. For more information on the Children’s Centre please contact Kathy Pellatt, Children’s Centre Manager, at Ashford Hospital. Email: kathy.pellatt@surreycaretrust.co.uk |
| Skills Centre |
Whilst it remains the aim to offer training and education support in the borough, no suitable place has been found to site the skills centre. In the meantime short courses are offered via the Skills Bus and various short courses. All activities are advertised in advance. |
| Extra funding for Stanwell |
Surrey County Council has approved £150,000 funding for Stanwell. We will use the money to strengthen the support to families, children and young people. |
